In my past 7 years of teaching, I’ve worked with many different clients who have challenged me to go deeper into the world of pilates and movement in general to expand my knowledge beyond what was taught in my original teacher training. I tend to be very particular about writing everything down and keeping binders full of client notes and choreography so at this point there are pages and pages of different scenarios and exercises that have evolved over the years.
This blog is the outlet through which I intend to share what I’ve learned with you to make your teaching life easier! As of now, the major resources available to teachers to further their education are workshops, Pilates Anytime videos and tutorials, and Instagram but there aren’t many free, short form, legitimate places for you to go if you need to quickly look up something and plan a lesson for your client coming in tomorrow at 8am who has knee issues and is 8 weeks pregnant (I’ve been there and know how many panicked google searches that resulted in!). This blog will be your go-to resource for quick, to the point information about how to work with and around specific issues like Osteoporosis, neck issues, knee pain, etc. along with more general teaching information like how to program effective group classes and privates, client goal setting, and more.
The information presented is is no way intended to replace attending continuing education workshops- which I highly recommend doing- but rather serve as an “in-between” guide to help you navigate unexpected situations or hone your teaching craft. As we all know, teaching is a rewarding and ever-evolving journey of exploration and knowledge seeking- and I’m honored to be on this path with you. Stay tuned for weekly posts and always feel free to contact me with questions :).
*All information that will be presented has been thoroughly researched and is biomechanically sound. Some exercises or tips were picked up from many of the continuing education courses I took AND/OR have come from my own personal experience with clients.
